Award Criteria
Sister Carmela O’Connor Outstanding Community Service Program Award
This award recognizes the student organization or program which exhibited the most successful service or philanthropic effort during the past year. The recipient of this award has incorporated service to the University, Adrian community and/or a charitable organization and was selected based on the overall impact, implementation technique, and student participation.
Outstanding Educational Program
The award recognizes the student organization/individual who presented the most successful educational program during the past year. The recipient will be selected based on the overall uniqueness of the program, technique, creativity, marketing, incorporation of the liberal arts learning outcomes, and ability to exemplify the university’s mission statement.
Outstanding Social Program
The award recognizes the student organization/individual who displayed the most successful social program during the past year. The organization will be selected based on overall uniqueness of the program, as well as the organization’s technique, creativity, marketing, and implementation strategies.
Most Valuable Officer
This award recognizes a student who has made significant contributions to a student organization, while holding an executive board position within the organization. The individual will be selected based on his or her contribution to the organization, demonstration of leadership, and commitment to that organization as well as the campus community.
Advisor of the Year
This award is given to a Siena Heights employee who serves as a student organization advisor. This advisor has gone above and beyond his or her responsibilities for the betterment of the organization and its student members. The advisor must demonstrate the following qualities: a strong working relationship with the organization’s members, active participation in the organization’s activities, being approachable and accessible to the organization, and being attentive to the needs and issues of the organization and its members.
Student Organization of the Year
This award recognizes the most exceptional organization during the 2020-2021 academic year. The organization will be selected based on the goal setting strategies, event success, leadership development of members, collaboration with other organizations, and overall engagement to the Siena and/or Adrian community.
Halo Award
This award recognizes true Saints spirit through “spirited” activities at Siena Heights University sponsored events. The individual will be selected based on his or her personal qualities, school spirited activities, efforts to improve the quality of campus life, and overall love for and dedication to Siena Heights University.
Saints Pride
This award recognizes a student athlete who excels both inside and outside their athletic endeavors. The recipient of the Saints Pride award successfully balances the demands of a student athlete and embodies the mission of SHU to the fullest. The individual will be selected based on their ability to demonstrate servant leadership, serve as a positive role model, and promote good sportsmanship.
Emerging Leader
The Emerging Leader award recognizes a first year student who excels at Siena Heights University and demonstrates true leadership qualities. The selection of this honor is based on engagement with campus activities, leadership initiatives, school pride, and overall contributions to their student organizations and programs.
Trudy McSorley Servant Leader Award
This award recognizes a student of sophomore or junior standing who contributes significantly to building community at Siena Heights. The recipient will be selected based on their leadership abilities and accomplishments, their work ethic, and their ability to serve as a role model for their peers.
Legacy Award
This award is presented to a student who exhibits exemplary leadership skills throughout their college career. The student must be a senior graduating in May, August, or December 2021. The criteria for selection includes quality of leadership, mutual respect among peers and administrators, dedication to the improvement of campus life, and the ability to promote leadership development at Siena Heights University. This is the highest honor given to a student by the Division of Student Life.
